Getting to know Manuel Saavedra

Manuel Saavedra a sixteen-year-old, Bolivian teenage soccer fan, has big dreams and expectations for his life. This boy I’m talking about has been a student at Santa Cruz Cooperative School for 13 years. Since he was in Pre-Kinder, and over the years he has realized that English is one of his strongest subjects. This is because he has an appreciation for the importance of learning to spend and read new languages. Now in 11th grade, Manuel would like to make his writing stronger and hopes that by joining MMR he will be able to do so.
Manuel or “Manu” as his friends call him is a big soccer fan and an increasingly impressive soccer player. He has been involved in his school’s team for 6 years. He played for three years in Junior Varsity and now is on his third year on the Varsity team. Training with the team is one of his afterschool activities, but he also enjoys a quick game with his best friends.
As a fan, Manuel is in love with the team; Blooming. This is a Bolivian Soccer team that has won 5 titles for Bolivia. “In the Santa Cruz society, there is a lot of appreciation towards sports. I grew up listening to my family talk about sports and this is how I became a admirer of soccer.” Manuel said.
Manuel has great potential as a student and as an athlete. He likes to have a balance between the social and academic aspects of his student life, which also gives him the opportunity to become a great model for his younger brother. Manu says that he dislikes people that give up, or are quitters per se. One of the main values of life is to know that everything is possible and that your best effort should go into everything you do.
