Jr. Knights Edge Past Jaguars

The Cambridge Knights got off to a good start by beating the Cooperative Jaguars 2-0 in the first game of the JV volleyball season. This game was played at the Jaguar home court and was a hard-fought game with the set scores being 29-27 and 25-23.
The first set was a total battle; both teams were pumped up and put their best effort into the game. Nearing the end the two teams were tying at every point. The score came up to 23-23, continued to 25-25 and finally 27-27. This is when the key player of the Knights, Sergio Soto, fired two of his tremendous serves and helped his team win the first set 29-27.
As the second set began, the Cambridge Knights took a lead while the SCCS Jaguars began to lose their focus and tire. But the Jaguars had a late surge and this game became almost as close as the first, with the terrific defense form the SCCS Jaguars and the marvelous serves and spikes of the Knights. The quality of play was almost at varsity level, and both teams looked to be in mid-season form.
After playing a tough game the Cambridge boys celebrated their 25-23 victory.
The line up of the winning team from Cambridge College was, Marco Ovando, Percy Vidal, Daniel Kirigin, Alvaro Veno, Mirko Sempertegui, Sergio Soto, Daniel Cotez, Luis Sojoncic, Percy Justiniano and Luciano Asturizaga.
The SCCS team consisted of the following players: Ian Pena, Raul Valle, Claudio Bedoya, Tomas Yeatts, Rodrigo Chavez, Fernando Viacava, James Ko, Matias Belmonte, Luis Peredo, Kevin Schock, William Yeatts and Richard Salvatierra.

First Half Explosion By Jaguars Leads to 5-0 Win

The Cooperative varsity boys soccer team once again demonstrated their skills on the field by beating the well-regarded Christian Learning Eagles on the Jaguar field Thursday. After a tough game the final score ended at 5-0.
On this humid and warm afternoon, the Jaguars pulled out all the stops in order to beat the Eagles. The pumped up team exploded for three goals in about two minutes in the middle of the first half, with two of them coming within 30 seconds of one another.
The first player to score a goal was Josue Abuawad, who headed a well-placed pass from Nicolas Aguirre into the goal. Esteban Sauto scored the second goal right after the ensuing kickoff with his left foot after receiving a pass from Lorenzo Monasterio and breaking into the open.
The third goal was scored no more than a minute later by Nicolas Cronenbold, who popped the ball over Christian Learning goalie Wesley Ordoñez.
After this short lapse in defense, the Eagles resumed playing harder than before and the game once again became a balanced match.
The Jaguars did get one more goal before the first half ended as Josue Abuawad brought the ball up to the Eagles goal once again. At this point one of the Eagle defenders was tripped up making it a one-on-one contest with the goalie. This was the second goal for Abuawad and the last goal of the first half.
In the second half the Eagles captured the ball for most of the time and kept it on the Jaguars side. Even though there was significantly less scoring this half, the game was still very exciting, thanks to the cheering from both the Jaguar and Christian Learning supporters.
“V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! That’s the Jaguars battle cry!” chanted the Jaguar cheerleaders, and the Jaguar team was spurred on to score one more goal, making the score 5-0 before the referee blew the final whistle. Both teams appeared exhausted, but the Jaguars celebrated their third win in the season very proudly while Christian Learning’s record fell to 1-2.

A New Beginning' in Bolivia

Alison Clare, a new first grade teacher at SCCS, comes equipped with high expectations and a lovely personality, Ms. Clare is excited to begin the next chapter of her life in the vibrant Santa Cruz community.
This young lady is from the state of Connecticut, in the US. She studied at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. After graduating she taught as a 7th grade science teacher in La Crosse, Wisconsin. After she did some research in Cochabamba last year she noticed that she enjoyed Latin America. While Ms. Clare was there, she heard that there was an excellent school in Santa Cruz and decided to apply here and hope to make this her new home. She succeeded. "This is a new beginning for me," she says.
Some of her hobbies are cooking, reading, writing, running and, mostly, relaxing. The teaching life style has allowed her to practice all of her hobbies. She loves the hot weather of Santa Cruz and has noticed that the city is fun to be in and that Cruceños are very nice people to deal with.
Alison Clare decided to teach children at a younger levelk than in the past because she believes that it is very important for young people to obtain a love for learning and strong classroom skills from a very young age to ensure lifelong learning in the future. Clare’s classroom is very colorful and fun, which illustrates her personality and style.
She expects that students come to school every day to learn and enjoy learning because her job in SCCS is not only as a first grade teacher but also to help children grow in a very healthy way. Most of the opinions that she has gathered over the first few weeks in school have been positive, She like the beautiful campus and that the high motivation of the students and staff.
